What is the Right Surfboard for You?

12 Oct 2020 by Heather Peck

Having fun and catching lots of waves are the key elements to making good progress with your surfing.
So many times out in the water, I see girls struggling and getting frustrated…mostly because they are trying to ride the wrong board for them.
When considering buying a surfboard, you should be totally honest with yourself about your fitness level, your surfing ability and what type of surfing you want to do.

It’s a lot harder to catch waves with a board that doesn’t have the correct volume to float you properly. Even though a shorter board is easier to carry and fit into your car, you will find that
getting on a small board too early, is not going to help you progress quicker.
Different board types = different surfing styles…in different conditions.
Longboards are great for cruising along the waves in smaller conditions.
Shortboards feel great if you’re into turning and using all the wave face in bigger conditions.

You could end up like me and have a selection of boards. Then you can choose which one, depending on your mood and the conditions on the day.
To help you decide, I’m going to have a Demo Session, where you can come and try out a few different shapes and sizes.
Check out the Classes section, if you’re interested. Numbers will be limited, so get in quick.
